Rio 2016 Olympics: Nigeria’s D’Tigers drawn against Brazil, Spain

African champions and Nigeria’s national men Basketball team, D’Tigers, have been placed in a seemingly tough group for the basketball event of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

D’Tigers were on Friday placed in Group B alongside hosts, Brazil and London 2012 Olympics Silver medallists, Spain.

The host nation were placed in Group B with Nigeria after the USA and Venezuela had been drawn in Group A in order to avoid having three teams from the Americas in the same group.

Argentina and Lithuania are also in Group B with Nigeria while a yet to be decided team from among those to play in the play-offs will complete the five-team roster.

D’Tigers will be starting their campaign at the Olympics against Argentina on Sunday August,7 2016.

While Group B which has Nigeria looks quite tough, Group A does not look any easy either as it has world’s top basketball teams like defending men’s champions the USA, Australia, China and Venezuela.

The group will also wait for a yet to be decided team from among those to play in the play-offs that will complete the five-team roster.

In the women’s cadre, reigning Olympic and world champions the USA were drawn in Group B with Canada, Senegal, Serbia and two teams to be decided at the Olympic qualifying tournament on 13-19 June.

Group A will feature London 2012 bronze medallists Australia along with Brazil, Japan, and three teams to be decided at the qualifier in June.

Nigeria’s female basketball team; D’Tigress are part of the teams to participate at the Olympic qualifying tournament fixed for June.
